Suhasini Maniratnam

Suhasini Maniratnam has always been an achiever — from her school days where she excelled in sports, to being the first woman from south India to graduate as a cinematographer — wearing many hats effortlessly. She is an acclaimed actress, the recipient of multiple Filmfare awards and a National Award. She has co-written, with her husband the renowned filmmaker Mani Ratnam, films like Roja, Thiruda Thiruda, Iruvar, Dil Se, Guru and Raavana. Together, they are partners of the film production companies Madras Talkies and Madras Talkies Television.

A keen believer in giving back to society, Suhasini started the NAAM Foundation in 2009, a Trust that empowers single women from underpriviledged backgrounds. A noteworthy initiative here was her conceptualisation and recreation of the painter Raja Ravi Varma’s ‘nayikas’, which later became a widely popular printed calendar. Funds raised from this helped more than 250 women.

Suhasini has been the Head of the Organising Committee of CHENNAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL since 2010. Her most recent role is that of Co-Producer of the much awaited pan-Indian film Ponniyin Selvan.
