Radhika Raje Gaekwad is an Arts Patron, textile revivalist, heritage conservationist, wildlife enthusiast and a LGBTQ+ activist. She has been a muse to Swati & Sunaina Gold since its inception. Her effortless style inspires us in our efforts to achieve the highest levels of excellence in handweaving.
Her home, The Lukshmivilas Palace in Baroda was designed and built as the seat of one of the Indian subcontinent’s most influential royal families, the Maratha Gaekwads. Its confluence of Indian and European design is reflected in the emergence of a distinct Banarasi style in handlooms in the early to mid-20th century in the country. The Rangkaat, a rare tradition of handweaving in Banaras represents this emergence of such Indo-European aesthetics and craftsmanship. We were honoured to collaborate with her to celebrate our Festive 2021 collection, which revisits the Rangkaat, in this gorgeous setting.
